How We Work With You!

At Home by Tim + Chris, what started as a saying, has fast become our mantra: “driven by us, highly influenced by you.” As Canadian focused designers, our role is to listen to your vision and use a multidisciplinary approach to interpret that vision into the most beautiful and functional spaces that we possibly can. As designers, our gifts are varied, and layered on top are skill sets we have been formally trained in, to be able to ensure personalized design meets meticulous craftsmanship. Taking our creative passion and abilities to see beyond the present, is the gift we bring to our client’s lives in order for them to live their best selves. You have gifts too so let’s work together! Our environments are not just rooms, but rather representations of where you nourish, love, replenish, strengthen and rejuvenate. The foundational make-up of those spaces, from every chair, rug, art piece or wall, is where we build a life in which you and your loved ones flourish and grow.

From custom built-ins to bespoke furniture, our definition of meticulous is precedent setting…a very high bar for those in the back!

The practical means by which we get to this point are supported by a structured and collaborative process that make up the stages of your project. Like we said, it’s “driven by us” so we don’t leave your side! At each stage you are engaged closely in the evolution of your project:

1. Tell us about your project. Think Christmas List! This is the stage where you communicate your wish list. Your vision. Your dream. It’s ok to not know exactly what that may be. We will write the story for you, we just need to know what space needs to work harder for you, or perhaps your entire build requires many versions of your unique requirements so all the spaces will require a cohesive goal.

2. Proposal with discussion. We got the memo! We take what you have communicated and present a proposed approach. Using shared design boards and inspirational photos we can start style discussions as well. This stage sets the tone for the outcome and it’s important that the conversations embody your home, aspirations and lifestyle needs.

3. Site visit and builder relationship. We’ve been dating and now we are moving into a relationship! We pride ourselves on our exceptional ability to communicate and work with build partners, it’s important that we all connect in order to deliver a cohesive end result. At this stage, we are taking what we learned in Step 1 and adding further detail to help inform planning and drawings. If there are existing drawings and site plans, we review those and start thinking about the aesthetic. This stage can also include applying for permits and taking measurements.

4. Concept meeting with 3D renderings. Time for art class! As the foundation, in this step we literally draw your current space and walk you through our interpretation visually of what will change or what will come to be. You will clearly see what the end result will look like as it pertains to layout and can visualize from concept to completion. This is an important stage for feedback, revisions and additions. We like to include mood boards to get a feel for further design insights. We promise only good moods!

5.  Full design presentation. Don’t be nervous, we do the presenting! During this stage you will literally experience walking from your car in an immersive 3D concept presentation into and around your home. This includes the interior and exterior design concept. It provides a review of selected materials and ensures quality and alignment with the design vision. The budget provides transparency for all costs. The realistic preview of each space walks you through the lighting plan, detailed elevations, millwork, custom material plans and paint schedule. Schedules aren’t exciting so leave that part to us!

Client vision meets our design skill set and innovation is born!

6.  Planning after feedback and approval. The to do list! This stage involves refining the design elements and finalizing materials, finishes, and other specifications to bring your project to fruition. Steps like electrical, plumbing, hardware, countertops, elevation and trim specifications are part of the planning stage. So many specs? We take care of this too.

7.  Hands off to the contractor.
Pass the baton! As the final stage, we will have meticulously planned for a seamless pass of to the contractor and trades teams. We are very proud of our FF &E binders (furniture, fixtures and equipment) which contain every single spec for the builder! This information is also represented via an onsite QR code that is posted in full sight for all trades to reference. Once we hand off to the contractor, we answer questions and then your project is off to the races! Hand raisers unite, there will be questions and we have the answers!
