Coming up to our second anniversary in the Kawarthas, we’re excited to share our design space! Over the winter we took some space from our Colborne Street Gallery and made it specifically for Home by Tim + Chris. Along with our friends at Lucvaa kitchens who produced our cabinetry design and Fisher Paykel appliances who were generous in providing the appliances, we put in place a dream showcase kitchen!
Our sister business, Colborne Street Gallery is hosting an opening reception for Leanne Baird’s, Up Came The Sun. Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 6-8pm. Baird’s paintings are both a study of the physical and metaphysical. Exploring the natural landscape and investigating the way light behaves in these environments are constant sources of inspiration for her work.
I will start this with a caveat, white is not the only colour of cabinet that people can choose from, but in this case it was certainly the right choice. This kitchen, the heart of an century old cottage in a perfect village setting was ripe for a refresh.
It was almost a year ago to the day that Tim and I said goodbye to living in Toronto. We sort of cheated a little, and counted from mid-September because our routine was to come up to the cottage for the summer anyways. Looking back a year, it’s funny I was so nervous of ‘officially’ leaving the city. What a move it has been! In this blog I walk you through our newly designed master suite.
“…Last fall, he and his husband Chris Van Lierop decided to relocate to that cottage, setting up their design company, Home By Tim+Chris, in the town of Fenelon Falls. Their market is other cottagers who want to prepare their properties beyond simply summering, and their growth shows the demand: they’ve expanded to eight employees in a year.”
Nowadays the sunroom no longer has to accommodate wicker and rattan and only be used during the summer. We no longer have the same worries of our grandparents in their sunrooms — we get to use them in the sun, and all year round, comfortably.
They made the move last September after constantly prolonging the time they spent at the cottage. “Eventually we just decided that we think we can make a go of our business up here and why not just stay at the cottage,” he said."
It wasn’t enough for Chris Van Lierop and Tim Wisener to move their home design business from Toronto to cottage country. They wanted to contribute to the vitality of Fenelon Falls with a shop that would attract passersby.
Our challenge was that Kate had a limited budget to spend on things — mainly paint, cabinets, furniture and fabrics... not structural changes to the home. Our goal was to give her the spaces she wanted with the rooms she had.
Welcome to Home by Tim + Chris! We have been designing and building houses for the past 15 years in Toronto and last summer after moving to our cottage on Sturgeon Lake, as we usually do for the summer, we decided we weren’t going back to the city.
Brighter, warmer days are just around the corner. Before we're all tempted by the many joys Summer has to offer here in the Kawartha Lakes, we invite you to join us at the upcoming Country Living Show in Fenelon Falls, Ontario.
